Liepaja State Technical School strengthens cooperation with SIA “Dzelzsbetons MB”

On October 24, Agris Ruperts, Director of Liepaja State Technical College, signed a cooperation agreement with Ojārs Jaksts, Chairman of the Board of SIA “Dzelzsbetons MB,” and Artūrs Lukašenoks, Member of the Board.
The aim of the cooperation is to strengthen the link between education and the working environment, promoting the training of young specialists in the construction industry. The agreement provides for joint work in improving the quality of vocational education, organizing internships, developing teaching materials, and organizing professional competitions.
SIA “Dzelzsbetons MB” is one of the companies of the MB Betons group, which specializes in the design and manufacture of precast reinforced concrete structures, the production and supply of ready-mixed concrete, as well as concrete research and testing. MB Betons companies are part of the UPB group, with which Liepaja State Technical College has already had successful cooperation, including in the development of a reconstruction project for the college’s buildings.

The cooperation continues within the framework of the Erasmus+ project “Extended Reality for Training Green Skills in the Construction Sector”. The aim of the project is to create innovative teaching materials and applications using extended reality (XR) technologies so that future construction specialists can learn professional skills in a modern and interactive way.
One of the largest applications in terms of content will be about the reinforced concrete construction manufacturing process – from design to transportation to the construction site. Fourth-year building construction technicians from Liepaja State Technical College have already visited the production facilities of SIA “Dzelzsbetons MB,” familiarizing themselves with the filming locations, and also participated in today’s contract signing event. The young people will also be the first to test the XR applications developed in the project.

During the event, representatives of SIA “Dzelzsbetons MB” took a tour of the school, getting acquainted with the construction engineering and finishing work training laboratories, as well as learning about the organization of the training process, professional competitions, and the content of the qualification exam. During the meeting, it was repeatedly emphasized how important it is for young people to acquire the knowledge that is truly needed in the labor market at educational institutions, preparing them for a successful career in the construction industry. The importance of raising the prestige of the profession was also emphasized, as well as the motivation and interest of young people in learning the profession of construction technician.

Gints Šulcs, a leading educator and expert in the project, emphasized that he is proud of his students and is pleased that many of them choose to continue their studies in higher education after school, but pointed out that the construction industry also needs practitioners who do real work on sites. Gints also shared the teaching methods he uses to instill in young people a sense of responsibility for their work, its quality and deadlines, as well as to foster a positive attitude and respect for others – students, teachers and the work environment as a whole.

Liepaja State Technical College is delighted to be working with SIA “Dzelzsbetons MB” and looks forward to continued successful cooperation in developing education in the construction sector and strengthening the link between the school and the business environment.
