360° video material recorded in Latvia

On September 29 one of the most important project activities took place –filming at a construction site to develop training materials for virtual reality (XR) glasses.

The filming took place in a real environment – a construction site – so that the material obtained can then be converted into an XR environment where students can interactively learn about construction processes at school. Such materials will help students not only to see the working environment, but also to learn the theory in a practical way by answering questions integrated into the video story.
During filming at the construction site, an employee was equipped with a helmet with a special camera that recorded everything in a 360-degree angle. The result was both 360° photos and videos, which will later be processed and placed in a special application. In this environment, students will be able to virtually walk around the construction site, observe the work in progress, and supplement their knowledge with interactive tasks.
Filming is provided by the association “Development Platform YOU+”, while video post-processing and uploading to the app will be carried out by our project partners 3D Bear from Finland. The construction sites for the project are provided by UPTK, a project partner of LSTS.

The filming team was joined at the construction site by project manager Kate Jēkabsone from LSTS and 4th-year students specializing in “Building Construction Engineering” at Liepāja State Technical School.

This activity is an important step towards the development of modern and innovative teaching tools that will help prepare future construction industry specialists using the possibilities of augmented and virtual reality technologies.
